Savitribai Phule Memorial School
For the past three years, we have been working on education for Dalit Children in the Darbhanga District of Bihar. Nearly 50% of Dalit students in Darbhanga drop out of school after Class 5, mainly due to financial reasons. We have a dream to provide good infrastructure to make comfort school environment.
So far we have been teaching children of ages 6 to 12. We've also arranged tutors, books, and stationery for students of classes 9th and 10th. Further we enrolled a few students to a nearby school and arranged their tuition fees, uniforms, bags, textbooks and other essentials.
These children come from families of daily wage labourers who often struggle with finding work due to rampant casteism.
Food, electricity and basic amenities aren't accessible nor affordable in these villages. Thus, we need your urgent help to build the Savitribai Phule Memorial School, a free school for Dalit students (from Preschool to class 8).
Kindly contribute to and amplify our fundraiser to help them access schooling.
The building of the school will be divided into two stages:
Stage 1: Owing to its urgency, we will build a temporary structure with the funds that we have collected by March 2023. Based on the number of students, we need at least 3-4 classrooms, toilet facility and enclosing boundary walls in order to start running the school. Food, electricity and basic amenities aren't accessible nor affordable in these villages. Thus, we need your urgent help to gather those funds
Stage 2: By the beginning of 2024, we have plans to extend the school and convert it into a permanent structure by providing an earthquake and flood resistant building with a raised foundation, sturdy columns, and beams. This will be done in collaboration with a Switzerland based architectural NGO ‘ArchAid’, who has offered to be responsible for the designing, building and fundraising for the school construction.
